Has anyone ever heard of Nevon Modeling Managment in L.A.?

I recently was scouted at my local mall by them and then they called and we set up an appointment. My mom and i went to the appointment and they wanted to set up a photo shoot for $320 and higher. I would love to model but i don't know if this is a scam or not. Please help!

I've never heard of Nevon Model Management. Have you done a Better Business Bureau search? Is this the one?

Or this one?

One receives and A- from the BBB and one receives and F rating, so check which one is contacting you by looking at the address. Many scam agencies use names very similar to legitimate agencies to create confusion so be careful and make sure you are not dealing with the company who gets an F rating

A legitimate agency never charges you for a photo shoot. Your initial test shoot with an agency should be free - otherwise how are they supposed to know how photogenic you are. Only 1 out of every 10 models who makes it to the test shoot phase will ever get signed so why should YOU have to pay for this when you have a 90% chance of being rejected?

Once you have passed the test shoot phase and have signed a contract, you will have to pay to have your comp cards done but this is NEVER through the agency. Any legitimate agency should have a list of recommended photographers in your area that you contact on your own, negotiate a price, and pay the photographer directly. You can also use the photographer of your choice if they are experienced in shooting comp cards - and in LA there are thousands of experienced photographers. If you are being forced to use a single photographer or studio, it is not legit.

The top agencies in LA are Ford, Elite, Next, Wilhelmina, LA Models, Q, Red, Nous, Bleu, Vision LA, Click. If you want to do commercial work, CESD, Abrams and BMG are the main agencies

To confirm a talent agency is licensed in the State of California you can email DLSE.licensing@dir.ca.gov or call (415) 703-4846. By law all talent agencies (which includes modeling agencies) in the state of CA need to be licensed. So if any talent/modeling agency is not licensed you will know for sure they are a scam as they are breaking the law.

Make that call or send an email before you spend a penny with any agency.
